Brian Whalen is the Sr. Vice President of Asset Management at Tailwind Investment Group and is responsible for overall business plan execution, oversight of third-party property managers, capital improvement projects and supports the reporting for Tailwind’s value-add and core-plus multifamily portfolio. Prior to joining Tailwind, Brian spent 10 years at The Irvine Company specializing in multifamily capital improvement projects, asset management, and revenue management. Brian and his team developed one of the most active multifamily capital expenditure operations in the US during his tenure at the Irvine Company, who is one of the nation’s largest private owners of apartments. In addition, Brian asset managed a 16-property joint venture with one of the country’s largest housing REITs, a 10-property joint venture affordable housing portfolio, and The Irvine Company’s 123-property apartment portfolio. Brian brings institutional revenue management and analytics experience having handled weekly pricing of 44,000+ apartments. As a leader within the Apartment Division, he sat on the company’s Apartment Advisory Council and completed the Experienced Career Leadership training program. Brian earned an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and earned his BS in Regional Development from the University of Arizona. He is currently on ULI’s Multi-Housing Product Council for the Orange County / Inland Empire chapter. In addition, he holds an active California Real Estate Broker license, Light Construction & Development Management certificate from the University of California Irvine, and real estate financial modeling certificate from A.CRE.
